Our Story

It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four young women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets, symbolism and rites that today bind over 240,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women.

Purposes

Throughout Chi Omega's long and proud history six purposes have guided the direction of every chapter and brought its members unequaled opportunities for personal growth and development. Those purposes are Friendship, High Standards of Personnel, Sincere Learning and Creditable Scholarship, Participation in Campus Activities, Career Development, and Community Service.

Organization

An elected five-member Governing Council formulates policy and oversees growth and development on a national level. The Fraternity's Executive Headquarters professional staff is responsible for implementing these policies and handling the day-to-day business of the Fraternity. Every Chi Omega chapter receives at least one visit a year from a National Consultant who provides new programming ideas and assists in the development of leadership skills.

In addition, a wealth of support is available to Active Chapters and collegiate members through national volunteers, professional staff, alumnae advisory boards, and printed resource manuals and publications.

The Chi Omega Foundation is the fund-raising organization of Chi Omega. Its purpose, through contributions from members, is to underwrite leadership, educational, and charitable programs. Through its tax-exempt, non-profit status, the Foundation is able to assist members with scholarships, grants, and leadership programs. Our Foundation provides the helping hand to sisters in need of important funds to complete their education, become vital community members, and to ultimately serve Chi Omega as role models and leaders.

Chi O Creations is a boutique/merchandising store which markets official Chi Omega sportswear and memorabilia to our members. Chi O Creations is a not-for-profit entity of the Fraternity. All proceeds are returned to the Fraternity to underwrite educational programming for our members.

Local Story

The Phi Epsilon chapter was founded at Ball State University on May 10, 1952. It was one of the first women's fraternal organizations on this campus and has remained one of the strongest ever since. Prior to its national affiliation, Phi Epsilon was a local teacher's sorority known as Psi Theta with 83 charter members. We are fortunate enough to have a famous alumn from our chapter. Joyce Dewitt (former actress on Three's Company) is a Phi Epsilon member!

Our Town

Muncie, known to its Ball State residents as "Funcie," is a unique city with a lot to offer.
